A kindness of strangers

It seems that tragedies such as the horrific events that occurred in Melbourne this week, keep on happening and so frequently! When I saw this on the news, it instantly made my stomach sink! My jaw dropped and my heart was in my mouth!

I was nervous because immediately I considered this to be a terror related incident. The news tells us that it wasn’t. I was nervous because I have many friends that live in Melbourne and also some family members who frequent the CBD. Thank god none of my friends or family were involved. I am lucky.

I’ve seen, as I’m sure you have too…footage of people laying flowers in honour of those who were killed as a result of this crazy mans actions. I’ve seen strangers break down in tears, saddened by the loss of people they don’t even know. As I watched this on the tv from my parents home, hundreds of kilometres away from Melbourne, I too felt such sadness. It pains me to think that two beautiful and innocent children were killed in this craziness. That young adults lost their lives and many people were hurt and are still hurting. That anyone lost their lives that day and in that way.

The kindness of strangers made me remember how amazing we as a people can be. We as Australians!

It was amazing to see such kindness and compassion in all those people helping the injured and watching over the deceased. The kindness of strangers made me remember how amazing we as a people can be. We as Australians! It’s human instinct, or at least I believe it to be in a situation such as this.

This incident really made me feel. It hit home. I hope nothing like his ever happens again and I hope those affected by this can heal.
